Tonight, the Popped Collars return to where they began. After playing at Lyneham, and now Kaleen, we now prepare to return to the Weston Indoor Sports centre.
I don't have much in the way of stats today, but as we prepare to change both location and team line-up, I thought we could track the team's changes over the years. Check out this funky graphic showing our major players (at least 20 matches) and the number of games they played on a month-by-month basis.
The colours of the dates represent the location (Green = Weston, Blue = Lyneham, Orange = Kaleen).
Version 1.0
The first 8 players listed (along with Josh) were our regular team when we first became the Popped Collars. Josh left soon after, leaving us with just the 8. We played three full seasons at Weston, and were only ever regularly challenged by two other teams - 4 Skins and "The Old Blokes" (who changed their team name almost every season). In those three seasons, only us three teams made the Grand Finals. Popped Collars took out 2 out of 3 premierships, laying claim to the title of 'Overall Best Team' during our time there.
Version 1.1
The competition went downhill in our fourth season, causing Julian to become "sick of this stupid game". Along with Jake's departure, we picked up "Action" Dan Sheahan, but still found ourselves constantly down a player - not that it mattered, we never played anyone who could beat us anyway. Eventually we got "sick of this stupid competition" and headed off to Lyneham.
Version 2.0
Matt promoted himself to full-time player, and for a short time we convinced Julian to come back, giving us a good selection of players for the Lyneham comps. Encountering a few quality opponents, we only managed to make the semi-finals before changing from Monday to Tuesday nights. The second season was the infamous season of debt. We beat almost everybody, but got almost no points because we were always short of players, and thus money.
Version 3.0
Lyneham shut down, Jules called it quits for good, and Andy Ragg disappeared to Queensland. Our only option was to play the slightly inconvenient Friday night 6-a-side comp at Kaleen. Consecutive grand finals against the Gold Diggers brought one more premiership.
Version 4.0
Matt out.
Dan, Tim and Omar (for now) in.
We're back to playing the full version of the game against an entirely new selection of teams. This will be our 10th season as the Popped Collars. At the end of this season, we will have 5 years of "serious" indoor cricket under our belts.
