The Final Post

Previously, on PoppedStats:

I left you all with a cliffhanger ending to 2015 when I announced that I intended for the "next post to be the final one ever", but also left a glimmer of hope when I said that it didn't mean what it might seem at first glance.

What is happening? Is this the end for the blog forever?

It is now time for the thrilling resolution of this potentially shocking scenario...

I made a half-hearted attempt to leave some hints - but I don't really expect anyone to have taken much notice. I think a few people have picked up on at least one of these "hints". But, just in case anyone had decided to come up with a theory (as opposed to Gareth, who had intended to spend the entire Christmas-New Year period hitting refresh on the blog so he could find out first), here's some vague attempted-clues you could have pieced together...

Last time, when the announcement was made, I referred to "the next post on this site" (emphasis added) before stating that the next post would be the last. The observant reader could deduce that this meant the blog would be moving to a different site. Indeed, a number of people have (correctly) assumed this would be the case.

But that's not all.

The obvious next step is to ask "why" the blog would be moving. After all, the current site has served us well for six years (and three days).

You may have noticed that in the introduction to this recent post I mentioned I had been writing blogs early so I would have "more time to work on something different for you", and that in the cliffhanger post I used the phrase "moving into a new future". Evidently, I have been planning and creating something new that would take some time to set up. Combined with the fact that the blog is moving to a new site, it seems we will be moving to somewhere with fancy new features; more than just a blog, and more than what the current site is able to do for us.

Being a stats-related blog, the obvious extra features one would want is the ability to look up stats. Now, technically, I was able to do that on the current site, but it required manually updating every page of stats each time a new match was played (this is why I only ever had one page of stats on this blog).

Now, think back even further... way back to the very beginning. The original purpose of the blog was simply to be a place to download a stats program I had been working on which allowed anyone to look up stats themselves. That died off, for several good reasons (which I have noted previously) - and, in any case, there's no need to move if I was going to do that again.

So... moving to a new site... taking a bunch of time to set up... has the ability to look up stats... doing things in a way the current site can't support... no downloadable programs... no static web pages that need regular manual updating. There's not many things that fit that profile.

The correct solution: PoppedStats now has its very own hand-crafted custom-made website... and it's online now!

All of the original 150+ blogs posts are there, and so is the first of the new blog posts which gives a quick introduction to the new site.

Now that you know about it, I won't take up any more of your time on this page. Time to move on.

Thanks for reading poppedstats.blogspot.com

See you in the future...
