With the matches about to get underway for the new year, it is obviously time to look back at the performances of 2010. This will be a short series of posts looking at whatever topics I feel like looking at regarding the matches of 2010. We begin today with a general look at numbers of matches for the team and the players.
The Team
But first of all, the team as a whole...
Weston Indoor Sports lived up to their reputation of not giving teams any byes or weeks off. Popped Collars played at last one match every Monday from January 11 until December 20. No breaks. That's 50 weeks worth of matches, which included 7 double-headers, for a grand total of 57 matches.
We won 39 and lost 18. This is a solid 68% win ratio.
We batted first 21 times, and fielded 36. When batting first, we won 13 (62%) - and when batting second we won 26 (72%).
Unsurprisingly, 4Skins top the list of most-played opponents. We went up against them 9 times during the year. Boonies could have matched that number, except that their team folded in September with 7 games already played against us. DILLIGAFS (now known as ASG) were next on the most-played list with 6 games.
Our record against each of our most-played opponents is given below.
Opponent | Matches | Wins | Losses |
4Skins | 9 | 3 | 6 |
Boonies | 7 | 6 | 1 |
DILLIGAFS | 6 | 3 | 3 |
Just 1 More | 4 | 3 | 1 |
Balbs | 3 | 1 | 2 |
Big 4 Bandits | 3 | 3 | 0 |
SNAFU | 3 | 3 | 0 |
St Jude's Dads | 3 | 3 | 0 |
The Players
Over the next few posts, there will certainly be lists of "most something-or-other" for the year. Lists like this are usually quite uninteresting, because the people who play the most games (or choose themselves to bat or bowl extra times) always end up on top. So let's establishing who played the most matches, so you can keep it in mind as you read the rest of the 2010 lists.
It will also show us who was the most Seriously dedicated to the Popped Collars cause over the last 12 months.
Brad and Xavier missed only one game each, while A.Ragg was the only other to play a half-century.
Name | Matches |
Brad | 56 |
Xavier | 56 |
Andy | 53 |
Rian | 46 |
Jake | 45 |
Gareth | 42 |
Julian | 42 |
Sanjit | 41 |
Pearson | 14 |
Jim | 12 |
Our most commonly encountered individual opponent was Joel from the 4Skins who was the only one of their players to be involved in all 9 games against us. Bren and Lyndon each participated 8 of our matches for the year, including both the matches they played for us and against us.
