Last night saw the return of Pearson to the Popped Collars line-up. It also saw the return of our old mate Rob, who hasn't set foot on an indoor court for many years now. But because we love him so much, today's post is all about Pearson. He started his innings last night with 3 sevens in the first 2 overs, and from the sideline, we urged him to "Go for the record!".
So he did. And he got out a lot attempting it. And so the question arose... who has the lowest score while hitting the most sevens.
Well, for starters, that's a difficult question to answer, because it's a difficult thing to come up with a way of comparing innings against each other. But what I can do, is list the lowest scores for each number of sevens hit.
4 sevens
This is the record number of sevens in an innings, and it has been done many times by us, and many times by opponents. Of all the people who have done it, the lowest resulting score is 20 - by a bloke called Liam from a team called The Tards.
The lowest score by a Popped Collars player is 23, by Rian, on one of the 3 occasions he has made the quadruple.
3 sevens
Here we find what I believe is the innings we are looking for... in April this year, a chap by the name of Jarvo hit 3 sevens in his innings, and managed to finish with a score of -2. Super impressive stuff. He was out 7 times, including 4 times in his final over.
For PC, Jim made a much more respectable 17 on one occasion that he scored a triple... the record that Pearson smashed last night by coming away with just 5 runs!
2 sevens
Of all innings containing a duo of sevens, Julian has lowest score, with just 3. He is followed closely by Rian (5) and Sanjit (7). After that, the list contains Rian again, Julian again, and Jake twice - clearly showing off the occasional "hit out or get out" approach of those 3 boys.
1 seven
Here is the other contender for the overall champion. The lowest score ever acheived in a Popped Collars game, -30 by Bren for the Boonies, in fact contained a seven. It also contained a side-back, and 8 wickets including the jackpot ball.
Overall
Overall I am going to award the "most sevens and least runs" title to Jarvo, for his 3 sevens for -2 runs.
For the Popped Collars players, I can't go past Pearson's performance last night. Good on ya, mate... another suspect record chalked up to our favourite sub.
PS - Gareth, your 8 dot balls last night rates second for our team... see this post.

The corolloray to this is 'highest score without hitting a 7'. I seem to recall this already having been discussed, however I can't be bothered going back over the blog.
ReplyDeleteOwen.
