Most Sevens, but still negative

....and we're back.

My stats database is up-to-date with all Popped Collars games (I have grand plans to eventually go back and put in what scorecards I have from pre-Popped Collars days, as well as the full set of GG six-a-side matches from a few seasons ago). I promise nothing much at the moment, other than to keep the Popped Collars scorecards up to date, and to a weekly "Stat of the Week" (SotW) post.

So let's get underway...

Last night, in our poorly batting performance again Tuff Stuff, with the result of the game already beyond doubt, Rian and Gareth went in at the end and just had a dig. As is often the case, there were many big hits - but also many wickets.

At one point, the pair went through 10 balls, containing 3 sevens and 4 wickets, prompting Andy to pose this week's question:

"What is the most sevens a pair has hit, and still ended up with a negative score?"



Last night, Ri and G hit less sevens than it seemed to us watching on the sidelines - only 4. But that was good enough to equal the record. On two other occasions a pair has knocked 4 maximums, only to end up with a negative score. On both other occasions, the score was lower than last night's -4.

The first, and best (or worst) of these, was by Brad and Pearson who made -8. Pearson hit most of the sevens, and Brad copped most of the wickets. The second occasion was also a Ri and Gareth effort, with -5 the final score.

Despite there being 3 negative scores when 4 sevens were hit, there has only been one instance containing 3 sevens - but it was a big negative... see the table below.

Listed below is the lowest score by a pair for each number of sevens hit. Only twice has a pair hit 9 sevens, and both were (unsurprisingly) century partnerships.

Note also that Rian's innings where he successfully completed "The 9" contained a seven (hit by Matt, who he was batting with).
