End Of Season 2011/12: The Team

And so ends another season of indoor cricket for the Popped Collars. The fifth season for the team - but only the fourth complete season, because we abandoned the Weston 2011 season before it was over. Of those 4 seasons, we have made 3 grand finals, and this was the first time we have lost the deciding game. Not that this was an unexpected result, given the stats from throughout the season.

RESULTS
Overall, the Popped Collars played 26 matches this season, for 17 wins and 9 losses. This result was something of a surprise to me, given that we played in a grade with only 3 other teams, two of which beat us most of the time, and one of which we usually beat. However it turns out that the 'grading' period, and the time during which there were other teams still in the grade, was longer than I remember.

Here's the breakdown of results against our most common opponents. The top 3 in the list are the three who ended up in our grade until the end of the season.

AVERAGES
As a team, our average score for the season was 162.2, while we kept opposing teams to 129.2, for an average result of Win by 32 runs.

This average was the result of an extremely polarised set of results. On one side, we suffered 4 losses of over 100 runs (including the grand final), all of which were against Tuff Stuff or Half-Inch Nipples. (Note that in 4 previous seasons, the team had only suffered 5 such losses altogether!) On the other side of the coin, we inflicted 6 big (100+ run) defeats on teams ourselves - all of which were against teams who were not in our grade, and included a pair of 200 run thrashings early on in the season.

BEST AND WORST
Our best batting and bowling performance of the season came in the same game, when we inflicted a 243-run demolition of a team by the name of Time To Declare. The score there was 252 to 9, giving the team their third largest ever margin of victory (although, this does not include the famous GG victory with 4 players against the drunk guys...)

The 55 run team total in the grand final was our second-lowest total for the season, beaten only by an abysmal 32, also against Tuff Stuff, earlier in the comp. In fact, 5 of our 6 lowest scores of the season were against Tuff Stuff!

While we're pointing out how much Tuff Stuff dominated us this season, they also put on 6 of the top 8 team totals against us, but it was a 205 by Half-Inch Nipples that topped the list.

AND THEN...
We are all hoping to come across some more competitive opponents in our change to Tuesday nights, rather than the glut of one-sided matches we've put up with for several seasons now.

The individual player stats for the season are done, and I will get the write-up done in the next couple of days. Stay tuned to see how everyone went, including the competition's MVP winner, Rian!
