Now imagine we live in an alternate reality, where the Popped Collars had no trouble getting together a full team and paying a full team worth of match fees each week this season. In the alternate universe, the ladder for this season's competition would look rather different. Well, actually, there'd only be one difference: would be well up the ladder, rather than miles last. This week's stat is simply:
Where would we be on the ladder if we had kept up to date paying our match fees each week?
The current competition ladder is here, and at the time of writing this, appears to be up to date (the "last modified" date on the page is yesterday). Here is a snapshot of the ladder as it currently stands:
Team | Points |
CHOKING DOGS | 111 |
JUG CHASERS | 91 |
SON OF HAQ | 84 |
C U NEXT TUESDAY | 82 |
FOUR SKINS | 51 |
POPPED COLLARS | 30 |
Now, our stats for the season are:
9 wins from 15 games
4 weeks off (byes)
34 skins won
I know for a fact (it's written on the scorecards) that the points awarded for match results are:
3 points for a match win
1 point per skin won
Last time I checked, a team having a bye received 6 points. That was a while ago; perhaps it has changed, perhaps not.
They also used to give points for teams who paid on time. It was originally 1 point per match. They later upped it to 3 points per match. Now they use "first team to pay" rather than having a toss, and give teams zero points if they don't stay up to date with money (such as us). Given those last two new advantages for paying, I've no idea if they still also give competition points.
In any case, our points just for the results of matches played is:
9 wins @ 3 points each = 27
34 skins @ 1 point each = 35
4 byes @ 6 points each = 24
TOTAL: 85 points
This put us in third place, and that doesn't even count any points we would may have received for paying on time. In the extreme case, if they do still give 3 points per game, we could have another 45 points, taking us to a massive 130, and a long way ahead of even the dominant Choking Dogs.
Without being sure of the all the exact details of the points given out, my conclusion is:
If we had kept up to date with our match fees, and had paid on time most weeks, we would be somewhere in the top 3 on the ladder.
