Season 2013

Last post celebrated a special milestone, the 100th blog post. Next week, we will be celebrating another equally (or even more) great occasion - be sure to check it out.

In the meantime, let's fill in this week by going back to last season and checking out the stats. The season for "Summer 2013/14" has been underway for a while, but I'm yet to give the info from our premiership-winning season just gone. So that's what we'll do today.

Batting
The batting award for this season goes to Brad, who led the team to the premiership by example. His average of 27.06 was comfortably the highest, and he also scored the most runs in total, and had the highest strike rate for the season.

Technically this is the first time Brad has topped the averages for a season. I say "technically" because using different criteria you could also say he's done it three times before. In the very first season of Popped Collars he was second to Josh, who only played half the season before leaving. In our last season at Lyneham he was second to Julian, who also left half way through the season. Brad was also the top GG batsman in that team's only season.

Bowling
Going on averages, the bowling title was an incredibly close race. The top two were separated by just 0.01 runs conceded per match. A single run over the course of the whole season would have been enough to change the result. In the end, Rian had the best average, just beating out the quiet achiever of 2013... Sanjit.

Matt also had a quality season, stepping up to comfortably take 3rd place on the bowling list. Gareth continued his role as a big taker-of-wickets - he and Brad tied for most wickets with 33 each. Unfortunately, when not taking wickets, these two also conceded a lot of runs, and so ended up 4th and 5th on the bowling averages.

Xavier bowled like he batted - he took the least wickets to end up last on the bowling averages, but also lost the least when batting (and easily faced the least balls per innings, and was the number two batsman on strike-rate).

In the following table, Average refers to average for a match (2 overs)

Contribution
Sanjit's great bowling season, and constantly improving batting pushed him to 3rd on the overall list for 2013. His above-average season with both bat and ball also pushed his career contribution into the positive for the first time since the very early days of Popped Collars. As of the end of this season, his average contribution was +0.14

In the next table, as well as the regulars I've listed everyone else who played any games for us that season.
