As the blog approaches another milestone, we continue our look back at all the great times it has provided us with in the past. With 2011 being a very lean year for posts, the next 20 (approximately) posts takes us through all of that year, and up to the middle of 2012.
We began 2011 with some outstanding batting performances, and three consecutive posts about how we broke all manner of batting records. Numerous records were set during each of those games, but each of them also set one major record that still stands today.
In the first game it was a team total of 329. In the second, Julian and Xavier made a 115 run partnership. In the third, Rian made an individual 77. In a classic twist, we also lost that third match.
The very next post was another all-time classic, with Rian achieving "The Nine"
In April 2011, the Collars won their second top-grade premiership at Weston, defeating the old blokes in a thrilling grand final. This gave the team bragging rights as "the best team in the comp" for the 3 seasons they had been playing. Then there was a celebratory post, featuring a photo and a song.
This was the end of the only season to have fielding stats kept.
During the next season we seemed to like looking at good/bad performances despite some other bad/good situations.
Even 4 years ago we were struggling to get a full team on the field every week, and even did some stats on it - finding that sometimes it's better to play short.
I also looked at partnerships, very briefly, a couple of times. Partnerships are something that don't get as much love from the stats as they should - mostly because it's a little more difficult for me to do their stats than it is to do team or individual stats. I really should update my system to simplify it.
...someone should suggest a big or complex partnership-related stat on the suggest a blog page, so that it forces me to make a better partnership-analysis system.
