The new season is off to a good start in that Popped Collars have racked up 3 wins from 3 games, including a great batting performance last night to knock off last season's premiers, DILLIGAFS. But it probably shouldn't have taken such a batting performance to get there. With the ball, PC racked up all sorts of records in the category of bowling extras.
For starters, it was most extras bowled in an innings by a team. PC bowled a total of 37 - which is more that one-quarter of the balls in the innings. More than one full batting pair worth of extras. This is 4 more than the number that was bowled to us by the team "Just 1 More" in a game about a year ago, and it is 11 more than the worst that PC have done before!!
Someone (Gareth, I think) wondered at the time if every over we bowled had contained at least one extra. The answer is "not quite". We actually bowled 15 out of 16 overs containing at least one extra - amazingly, the only person to send down a clean over was... Andy!! This 15 overs beats the previous "best" of 14 achieved by Just 1 More in the game mentioned above, and is two more than the previous 13 over record for Popped Collars.
For an individual over, Julian last night sent down an over containing 6 extras, which is 1 more than Sanjit's team record, and equal to the 6 bowled by a DILLIGAFS player in a match last season.
Jules' total of 8 in the match is equal second for the team. Our super-sub, Alec, bowled 10 in a match when he played for us.
Despite the fact that the opposition only sent down 8 extras, the total for the match comes in at 45 - second most on the all time list. The highest is 54 - in the same match against Just 1 More as mentioned several times already in this article. They bowled 33, we bowled 21. In that match, 27 of the 32 overs contained at least one extra.
So Brad (captain/coach), you know what to get the team working on for next week...
