Two short stories

In addition to this week's regular blog, I'm throwing together this short post to pass on two brief stories of varying levels of interest and amusement.

Story #1 - The Scorecard Fiasco: Epilogue
The competition results and ladder have finally been updated on the Kaleen website. All the results from games in 2013 are now available... including the classic umpiring and scoring farce of a few weeks ago. Sp, after the great discussion about who may or may not have won that game, and who may or may not be awarded the win for that game, the results are in.

And the winner is:
Popped Collars. The score listed is 91-85.

You may recall that our total was written on the scorecard as either 85 or 95 (difficult to read), and the opposition as 91. Also recall that the team names were written on the innings the wrong way around. Therefore, the ambiguous score has been read as 85, and the incorrect team name issue was not noticed.

Victory to the Popped Collars!

Story #2 - Minus Twenty-Eight
I filled in for a game at Weston during the week and saw something happen that I don't think I'll ever see again. The opposition batted first, and made a very low team total, helped along by a terrible second skin of -28.

When our second pair went in to bat, they lost 5 for shirts, then another 10 for a wicket on the first (jackpot) ball. There was much jesting from the sideline as their score hovered between -10 and -20 for most of the skin, and repeated calls of "make sure you don't lose the skin!" followed by hearty laughter.

The laughter died down when they dipped into the -20's during the final over, and then lost a wicket on the second last ball to take them to -29. They managed to scrap a single off the last ball, leaving the skin tied at -28 each.

But it wasn't my team, so I kept laughing.

The next pair (which I batted in) fell 4 runs short of scoring the 50 that they were chasing... and so, the opposition had successfully defended a skin of -28. Classic.
