Kaleen: Season 1 Averages

I spent this week struggling to remember any unanswered stat questions, and being unable to come up with anything new and exciting. Eventually I finally realised that I haven't yet compiled last season's overall performances. So without any further ado: player performances from our first season at a new location.

With the closure of Lyneham's indoor sports arenas, Kaleen re-introduced their cricket competition. The  Popped Collars played 6-a-side for the first time (technically), played plenty of low quality opposition, and had to deal with much lower-than-normal ceilings. How would these changes affect everyone's performance?

The 6-a-side competition, and the low quality of opposition brought plenty of big batting scores, and the stats reflect this.

Everyone batted between 4 and 7 runs better than their career average, except Xavier who only managed to go 0.8 runs better then his usual, thanks mainly to a run of poor form during the middle of the season.

Records were set... The previous best season average was 28.05 by Rian in season 2011/12. This season, Brad surpassed that record. Rian destroyed it.

In the bowling department, our two occasional players topped the averages. Evan and Rajit beat out all the regulars, conceding no more than 4.5 runs per over. Rian was not far behind that, and Brad's spin hit its peak, giving him his best ever season with the ball.

But... yet again... Gareth topped the wicket-taking list!

Sanjit's bowling was similar to Xavier's batting - usually very good, but let down by an unfortunate lean patch through the middle part of the season (remember the game we were counting the number of balls bowled without a wicket?)

And combining those two stats we get the average contribution per game. There's some big ones at the top - I'm not sure what the previous season record is, but it'd be a damn sight less that what Rian (and Evan) ended up with this summer just gone.

I will make no comment on the fact that Jeganathan & Jeganathan grace the bottom of the list. Unless that last comment counts...
