Team Results
Popped Collars and It's On Like Donkey Kong have played 8 times now, and the record sits at 4 games all. Despite the closeness of the overall results, most of the matches have been quite one sided. In fact, only 2 of the 8 games have been decided by less than 50 runs.
The 130 runs margin from the most recent match is the largest margin between the two teams though, surpassing the 119 run win (201-82) by the Popped Collars during a grading game at the start of this season.
Overall, it is the Popped Collars second consecutive 100+ run victory, after a 19 match drought before that.
Injury
Gareth was injured while batting, and had to come off. Trompf went on to finish batting out the pair in his place - the first pair time in any Popped Collars game that a bowler or batter has had to be replaced while they were in action.
I'm not sure if that is disgraceful or not, but I think it's interesting.
Batting Records
As tends to happen when the result is beyond doubt, things get a bit silly. Occasionally that silliness manifests itself on the scorecard. The final pair of this match put on some cracking stats (including the one about Gareth's injury). Here are some lists of records which now prominently feature the match from 28 April 2015.
Highest individual score
Batter | Score | Opponents | Date |
Rian | 77 | Take That | 21 Feb 2011 |
Rian | 73 | It's On Like Donkey Kong | 28 Apr 2015 |
Rian | 69 | Founding Fathers | 2 Dec 2014 |
Most Sevens by a batter
Batter | Sevens | Opponents | Date |
Rian | 9 | It's On Like Donkey Kong | 28 Apr 2015 |
Brad | 7 | I Got The Runs | 10 Oct 2011 |
Xavier | 7 | Take That | 18 Jul 2011 |
Most Sevens by a pair
Pair | Sevens | Opponents | Date |
Rian/Gareth* | 10 | It's On Like Donkey Kong | 28 Apr 2015 |
Xavier/Rian | 10 | Stimulated | 13 Mar 2012 |
Brad/Xavier | 9 | I Got The Runs | 10 Oct 2011 |
Julian/Xavier | 9 | Mal Practice | 14 Feb 2011 |
I could keep going with the seven-related records. They hit 5 sevens in one over, which is a Popped Collars record (but Rian and Xavier did 6 in one over for GG). That over last week also included a run-out off another potential seven, and another seven that was called back as a dead-ball as it hit the doorway and went out of the court!
That over featured Rian hitting 4 sevens from 4 balls faced - the first individual quadruple in an over (a triple has been done many times).
Bowling Records
Not to focus just on the batting there was also a bowling record that was both equaled AND broken last week. This is the least runs scored off a bowler (excluding wickets)...
Bowler | Runs Against | Opponents | Date |
Rian | 5 | It's On Like Donkey Kong | 28 Apr 2015 |
Stu | 6 | It's On Like Donkey Kong | 28 Apr 2015 |
Jim | 6 | 4 Skins | 13 Sep 2010 |
Rian's two overs consisted of 2 wickets, 10 dots, 2 wickets, 3 singles, and 1 two.
Meanwhile Stu bowled 5 wickets, 6 dots, 4 singles, and 1 wide.
In all Popped Collars games, there have actually been 2 opposition bowlers that have restricted our batters to just 4 runs - one of them is Ronny (from Gold Diggers and Toros) and the other was someone called Dave playing for Donkey Kong in January this year! Both of those 4-run efforts include instance of an over having 0 positive runs scored off it (3/-15 for Dave and 4/-20 for Ronny).
Contribution Record
Stu's +38 (18 and 5/-20) was an individual best in his fledgling career.
But having read this far, you will not be surprised to hear that there was another all-time record set here... Rian's 73 and 2/-5 is a record contribution. The total of +78 is comfortably the highest Popped Collars effort, and it even pips a long-standing record from that game against the drunk guys - Brad's +77 (68 and 5/-9) from that game has long been the mark to beat.
