Winning and Losing Streaks

Here we go... the first blog taken from the blog suggestions page. Don't forget that if you have an idea, get onto that page and post a comment suggesting some stats for a future blog.
Gareth has posted a few ideas to do with wins and losses - so to start with, here's a look at the winning and losing streaks of the Popped Collars.

I've put together what I think is a pretty spiffy graph showing all of our winning and losing streaks. Red bars are losses, green bars are wins (click for larger image).

In case you don't quite follow how it works:
The Popped Collars first game was a loss (1 loss in a row - the first red bar)
That was followed by a single win (1 win in a row - the first green bar)
Then another single loss (1 loss in a row - the second red bar)
Then we won 4 games in a row (the second green bar)
We then had 2 consecutive losses, 6 consecutive wins, 3 more losses, and so on....

As you can see, we have a good record of consistently picking up wins. A huge number of the losing streaks are only 1 game. Less than one-third of our losing "streaks" are more than one game (20 out of 66). And only 5 times have we lost more than 2 games in a row, and we have never lost more than 4-in-a-row.

Unfortunately, we are currently on a streak of three consecutive losses, and another failure tonight will see us equal our longest ever losing streak.

On the up side, we do have some impressive towers of victory. Three times we have achieved a winning streak reaching double figures. The first of those (11 in a row) were our last 11 games at Weston before we got sick of the competition and moved to Lyneham (where we faced the competition's top team in our first game).

The tallest tower - 13 consecutive wins - were our first 13 matches after moving to Kaleen. It again took the competition's best (Gold Diggers) to break our run.

Our third 10-in-a-row came just after we moved back to Weston again. We lost our first 4 games back at Weston, including playing Juicy Ham and Toros in consecutive weeks, but just a few weeks later we set out on yet another giant winning streak. Unsurprisingly, that run was broken the next time we faced Toros.

So, as inspiration for tonight, let's stop that red tower from growing... let's not be in a position next week where we could be setting a new losing record!

More of Gareth's requested stats next week....
