Popped Cup results - Round 1

The results for round 1 of the group stage of the Popped Collars World Cup are here...

Pool A

Rian and Omar batted together last week. That was the first and only time they have done so, and on that day (1/7/14) Rian scored the win with a successful shot in the second over.
Rian   1 - 0   Omar

Andy and Jake were a regular pair back in the day, batting together 65 times. Innings number 21 was chosen at random. On this day (1/3/10), they went in for the last skin of the match with the team already leading by 19 runs. Jake was out 4 times during the pair, and Andy hit the only seven in the middle of the final over.

Pool B

Pearson and Gareth have never batted together. They played 9 games together, and game number 4 was chosen (8/3/10). It was the second game in a double-header at Weston. Both players made low scores in a game that we won by 8 runs, despite the other team's final pair making 65 in a valiant chase. Gareth hit a seven in his first over, making  up for a wicket he lost first ball. He looked certain to win the contest, until Andrew put his very last ball to the back net to equalise (and also to take his actual score into the positives).
Pearson   1 - 1   Gareth

Brad and Matt have batted together 16 times - spread over Matt's initial stint with the team in 2010/11 and also his more recent return when were at Kaleen. Innings number 12 was chosen at random.
It turns out this was actually our first ever game at Kaleen (14/9/12), against a weak team that we comfortably beat. Runs were easy to come by, but being our first experience with the low Kaleen roof, sevens were not. Matt took most of the strike, and didn't lose a wicket, outscoring Brad 33-17. But neither player managed to put away a goal.
Brad   0 - 0   Matt

Pool C

Captain Morgan and Xavier have not batted together, but have played 10 games in common. Game 7 was selected (22/4/14). The last game before Dan went away for 7 weeks. The two players' scorecards are similar for that day... struggling with the bat. They hit only 8 shots between them for more than a single - neither of them hit anything for more than three. No back net shots at all.
Dan I.   0 - 0   Xavier

'Action' Dan and Chris Reid have never played a game together.
Dan S   0 - 0   Chris

Pool D

J.Ragg and J.Mellor have never batted together, but have played 16 games in common. Game number 3 was chosen. This is the earliest game chosen for the World Cup so far (2/11/09), it was just our 10th match as the Popped Collars. Despite Jim making 25 runs and Julian only 8 that day, Julz innings was far more entertaining, containing 2 sevens and 4 wickets. Jim hit nothing more than a two, and faced a lot of wides.
Jim   0 - 2   Julian

The Jeganathan brothers face off in round one! They have batter together 8 times, and occasion number 7 was chosen. This game was just a couple of months ago (13/5/14), and there is in fact a blog about it. Unfortunately for Rajit, it's about Sanjit hitting sevens. Three of them.
Sanjit   3 - 0   Rajit
