Pool A
Rian and Jake batted together only twice. The first occasion was chosen for this match (12/12/11). With Jake needing a win to have any chance of making the next round, he both fell behind and then equalised in the second over of a high-scoring partnership. While Rian lost the only wickets of the pair and hit a number of other back-net shots, Jake managed to claim the lead at the end of the third over, and claim victory - keeping himself in with a chance of advancing in the tournament.
Jake 2 - 1 Rian
Omar and Andy have never played a game together. Just like with his match against Jake yesterday, Omar has played for us while Andy was still around, but never shared a match with him.
Omar 0 - 0 Andy

Pool B
Andrew and Matt batted together twice, and the second pair was chosen (17/1/11). Matt had been sent back in to bat for the last pair, and both batters struggled. Of the 32 balls in the pair, 12 were dots, 7 were singles and there were 5 wickets. Andrew managed to take a side-back off the very last ball, but neither looked like scoring a goal in this contest.
Andrew 0 - 0 Matt
Gareth and Brad have paired up on 9 occasions - the random number generator has selected number 5 (19/7/10). This game is a battle to make the top 8 - Brad needs to win by 2 to advance, otherwise Gareth will get in ahead of him. It is yet another game against 4Skins (I haven't been recording it, but this about the 5th of 6th game in this World Cup against them). Chasing 166, Julz and X made a solid 37 to start, before Gareth and Brad smashed 66 in this second pair, putting the Popped Collars in a great position.
Both batters scored in the 30s. There were consecutive sevens in the second over, with both players taking one each. The third over went for 25 runs, with Brad claiming the lead off the second ball. Gareth hit two more balls to the back net before the innings was up - but neither were a big one. The captain claimed a win, but not by the margin he required to advance.
Gareth 1 - 2 Brad

Pool C
Dan Irvine and Chris Reid have played only 1 game together, and they batted together in that match (28/2/14). Much is on the line in this so-far-goalless pool - any winner will lock in a place in the next round. This was Dan's first ever game for the Popped Collars. In the first over he lost a wicket and hit a seven. He repeated that in the second over, while Chris accumulated at the other end. In the final over Dan lost two more wickets, and then hit the last ball for a doubled-seven. I'm pretty sure that was the time he should have been run out (a 24 run turnaround) but the fielder went for a Gareth-style wind-up just a couple of meters from the stumps, and missed embarrassingly.
In any case, Dan crushed Chris to emphatically book his place in the knockout stage.
Dan I. 3 - 0 Chris
Xavier and Action Dan were a regular pair while 'the other She[a/e]han' was playing. Twenty-two times they paired up, and we will be looking at the 10th of those (4/7/11). These two had a shaky start to their career batting together, but this innings must have been well after those early days - both players made above 40 as they piled on a skin of 88 against the old blokes. At one end, Daniel made 43 in what must be a record score without hitting a seven. Xavier made 45 including a trio of big hits to turn this formerly scoreless pool into a goal-feast for the final round.
Xavier 3 - 0 Dan S.

Pool D
Sanjit and Jim have batted together just once (10/10/11). In that game, they batted second, following on from a Brad-Xavier century partnership. Jim and Sanjit both lost early wickets. Jim made up for it with a seven in the second over, then continued to lose wickets, and not score much. At the other end, Sanjit accumulated before making a late charge. Starting from the final ball of the third over, Sanj hit his last 4 balls for 7-2-7-5 to finish with 40 runs. What a way to complete a sensational group stage - giving himself a great chance of finishing on top of his pool!
Sanjit 2 - 1 Jim
Rajit and Julian have never batted together, but have recently played a number of games. We will look at game number 2 out of 6 (29/4/14). This was the game against the Bilbies - a team Julian and Xavier played for regularly several years ago. Rajit batted with Matt, and made an individual score of -7... unsurprisingly containing no sevens. Julian batted in the very next pair with Brad and... very surprisingly, also made -7. Also with no sevens. A pretty disastrous day all-round.
Rajit 0 - 0 Julian
POOL D | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts |
Sanjit | 2 | 1 | 7 | 3 | +4 | 7 | |
Julian | 1 | 2 | 4 | 2 | +2 | 5 | |
Rajit | 2 | 1 | 0 | 3 | -3 | 2 | |
Jim | 1 | 2 | 1 | 4 | -3 | 1 |
Rajit manages to stay off the bottom of the ladder, despite remaining scoreless throughout three matches.
