This post was inspired by Gareth's question about who gets stumped most often. Presumably he felt that he was a strong contender for the number 1 spot. So let's start with those stats. Here's a straight-out count of stumpings:
Name | Times stumped |
Gareth | 41 |
Brad | 26 |
Xavier | 25 |
Andy | 24 |
Sanjit | 24 |
Julian | 19 |
Jake | 14 |
Matt | 10 |
Rian | 10 |
The G-Train does indeed top the list. He has a commanding lead over Brad and Xavier, who sit second and third mainly because they have played the most matches.
Perhaps a better measure of "most often" stumped is how frequently you get stumped relative to how often you play, or how often you bat. In any case, surely Gareth, with such a lead over the rest of the team would top that list as well... The next table shows the average number of balls faced per stumping:
Name | Stumped | Balls faced | Balls per stumping |
Julian | 19 | 1414 | 74.4 |
Gareth | 41 | 3136 | 76.5 |
Jake | 14 | 1238 | 88.4 |
Andy | 24 | 2514 | 104.8 |
Sanjit | 24 | 2874 | 119.8 |
Brad | 26 | 3406 | 131.0 |
Xavier | 25 | 3609 | 144.4 |
Matt | 10 | 1921 | 192.1 |
Rian | 10 | 2858 | 285.8 |
Julian in fact edges out Gareth in terms of stumping frequency (but Julz can take consolation in the fact that he correctly predicted Rian to be the least-stumped player). Matt's batting style keeps his feet in the crease, and his stumping count very low, while And as noted, Xavier and Brad have the highest balls faced, dropping them to near the bottom of this list.
So far I've listed only our long-time players. If you reduced the criteria for inclusion in the list to just 100 balls faced, there are 4 players ahead of Julian...
Name | Stumped | Balls faced | Balls per stumping |
Pup | 4 | 136 | 34.0 |
Evan | 4 | 170 | 42.5 |
James | 3 | 150 | 50.0 |
Dan | 2 | 145 | 72.5 |
At the other end of the list, Chris Reid and Rajit have both been stumped just once each from 155 and 261 balls respectively, while Adrian has never been stumped in his 137 balls faced so far.
If you remove the minimum criteria altogether, the overall champion for the Popped Collars is Blando. He played one game for us back in the early days, facing 19 balls and getting stumped 3 times (6.3 balls per stumping)
The overall champion from all games we've been involved in is a guy called Pete from Take That (a team from the old Weston comp) - he played 1 game against us, and was stumped 3 times off only 12 balls faced.
Bowling
Many would probably assume that Gareth will find himself near the top of the list for stumpings taken off his bowling as well. He is... but again, he just gets edged out for top spot...
Name | Stumped | Balls Bowled | Balls per stumping |
Brad | 71 | 3568 | 50.3 |
Gareth | 58 | 3028 | 52.2 |
Rian | 38 | 3035 | 79.9 |
Matt | 20 | 1779 | 89.0 |
Xavier | 38 | 3654 | 96.2 |
Jake | 12 | 1259 | 104.9 |
Julian | 14 | 1480 | 105.7 |
Andy | 20 | 2359 | 118.0 |
Sanjit | 18 | 2914 | 161.9 |
Rather surprisingly, Rian comes in at number 3. But unsurprisingly Sanjit is at the bottom (I say unsurprising because I rate him the most difficult bowler to keep to) .
Other notable stats regarding bowlers claiming stumpings with high frequency include:
- There are 7 different opponents who have had 2 stumpings off their bowling in one game against us (16 balls).
- The all-time champion for our teams is "Dad" (remember the day Andy brought his father along to play a game for GG??) who had two stumpings taken off his 17 balls bowled (he had to rebowl an extra).
- The best by an opponent who we've played against numerous times is Chris, from our old rivals, 4Skins, with 7 stumpings off 128 balls (18.3 balls/stumping).
As much as I'd love to do stumpings by wicket-keepers, there's no record of who was keeping at what time. The best I can do is this:
In days when Andy played (and mostly was keeping) we took 1.42 stumpings per game.
Since then, the average has risen to 1.54 per game.
Just sayin'...
